Home Page What is AVDC? Contact AVDC

July 2008: AVDC is initiating an on-line case log system that is easier to use than the Excel system. It willl be rolled out to all current AVDC trainees in the Fall of 2008 - you will each be contacted with specific information on how the migration process will be handled. For now, either continue to enter cases in your Excel log or maintain a list of cases that have not yet been entered so that you can enter them in the on-line log when you have been set up to use it. The migration process will be completed well before the next Annual Report is due in Janaury 2009.

If you are newly registering for an AVDC training program, do not download the Excel templates or start to enter cases in the Excel log. Contact the Executive Secretary.

Excel-Based Case-Log Workbook Template

The case logs generated by this workbook meet the AVDC case log requirements. The templates can be downloaded from this page.

Use of the case-log templates permits accurate insertion of information required by AVDC for each case on a daily basis, and expedites preparation of printed case-logs for the Annual Report to the Training Support Committee and for the Credentials Application package.

The templates are in MS Windows Excel® spreadsheet format. To use the workbook, you must have the Excel® software program (2000 version or later) installed on your computer.

Download, Installation and Use:

1. If MS Excel® is not already installed on your computer, install it. MS Excel® is included in the MS Office® suite of software programs.

2. Download the templates by clicking this Templates link. Be patient - this may take several minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection!

3. Click the Save button on the download screen to download the files into a new folder (such as AVDC Excel Files) on your hard drive. (Do not click the Open button on the download screen - the files will open, but you will not be able to save them.)

4. Copy the downloaded files to a new folder (such as "Your_Name case log files"), and use this set of files in the new folder as your working files.

5 . Open MS Excel and open the file from the folder that you created as your working copy.

6. Instructions on using the files to generate AVDC case logs are included in the Introduction letter (click the 'Introduction' tab on the bottom left of the screen).

7. You will need access to the AVDC Abbreviations List for correct entry of case log data. The Abbreviation List is available as an Acrobat .pdf document for you to read or print, or as a MS Word .doc to download, save and re-format. Both versions are available from the Information for Registered Applicants page.

8. A copy of a Microsoft Excel book or tutorial CD may be valuable for applicants who are not familiar with MS Excel.

9. Remember to back up your computer files frequently!

10. If you identify a bug, or you come up with a new and easier way of performing some of the file management tasks required for maintaining an AVDC case log, please send an e-mail to the AVDC Secretary (ceh@vet.upenn.edu). Updates and bug-fixes will be shared with all applicants.

The AVDC case-log template files were developed by Drs. Robert Wiggs and Bert Dodd. AVDC is grateful for their time and expertise.
