Applicant, Trainee, Candidate and Supervisor Definitions

The word ‘trainee’ is used when to referring to veterinarians who are registered in an AVDC-approved training program. Trainees include veterinarians registered in both alternate pathway and residency training programs.
An ‘applicant’ is a veterinarian who is applying for registration of a training program with AVDC.
A veterinarian who has completed an AVDC-approved training program and whose credentials have been approved is known as a ‘candidate’.
Every trainee has a ‘supervisor’, who is either a mentor (for an alternate pathway program) or a residency program director.
