Veterinary Dentist

DentalVets are a 100% referral dental and oral surgical practice based near Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. We were the first dedicated veterinary dental practice in the UK and have been established for over 20 years.

Applications are invited for a position as a veterinary dentist to join our rapidly expanding team. Our practice is currently located in North Berwick, close to Edinburgh, Scotland. Edinburgh is the ancient capital of Scotland and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. North Berwick is a small, scenic, harbour town with outstanding quality of life and leisure opportunities. Our caseload is 100% referral and draws from the North of England and all of Scotland. The majority of our caseload is dogs and cats with zoo animals also treated. We have close ties with the University of Edinburgh Veterinary School whose facilities include the world class Riddell-Swan Cancer Centre.

Our ideal candidate will be board certified by either the AVDC or EVDC. Board eligible or other candidates will also be considered. This is a senior position that will require excellent clinical skills, leadership, energy and commitment to our long standing group of referring veterinarians. Clinical Instructor in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery
University of Wisconsin-Madison

The Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time position as Clinical Instructor in the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Section. This position will be part of a current team of two AVDC diplomats and three residents providing clinical service to the dentistry and oral surgery section within the Small Animal Hospital of UW Veterinary Care on the UW Madison Campus. The annual caseload for the small animal hospital is over 24,000 patients with 4-5 dental and/or orofacial procedures performed daily.

Qualifications: Candiates must have a DVM or equivalent degree with advanced training in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery. Candiates must be board certified or board eligible in the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) and European Veterinary Dental College (EVDC) is necessary. We will also consider candidates who are eligible to take the AVDC or EVDC board certifying examination. Candidates demonstrating expertise or interest in expanding the veterinary dentistry and oral surgery service’s clinical service offerings to zoological species or large animal/equine patients is supported and encouraged, but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide patient care, instruction and supervision of veterinary students, interns, and residents; and consultation with referring veterinarians, clients, and other services within the hospital. Opportunities for providing dental care to a large variety of species are available if of interest of the faculty member.

This position will participate in clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, interns and residents. Opportunities to undertake research are available and encouraged.

Tenure or Clinical Track Professor in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery

Candiates must be board certified or board eligible in the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) or European Veterinary Dental College (EVDC). Candidates demonstrating expertise or interest in expanding the veterinary dentistry and oral surgery service’s clinical service offerings to zoological species or large animal/equine patients is supported and encouraged, but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical Track: Faculty in the clinical track at the Univeristy of Wisconsin are expected to teach third year students in the small animal surgery course, the advanced dentistry course, and the dentistry clinical rotation. Required clinical duties will range between 22-24 weeks. Clinical duties include leading resident-based or student-based rounds which involve approximately 3-5 hours per week while on clinics. Opportunities for providing dental care to a large variety of species are available if of interest to the faculty member. Development of a research program as well as clinical and research supervision of residents in dentistry and oral surgery is also required. Participation in continuing education programs for practicing veterinarians is also expected.

There is currently a 1-week equine dentistry elective course (including clinical laboratory) offered during the third year curriculum. If the appropriate candidate has an equine interest, participation in leading this course would be encouraged.

For a clinical track appointment, distribution of time in clinical practice, teaching, research, and service is expected to be in the range of the following, depending on unit needs: 40-50% clinical practice, 20% non-clinical teaching, 20-30% research and 10% service.

Tenure Track: Faculty in the tenure track at the University of Wiscosin are expected to teach third year students in the small animal surgery course, the advanced dentistry course, and the dentistry clinical rotation. No more than 13 weeks on clinics, participation in classroom lecture and laboratory as identified by the section. Clinical duties include leading resident-based or student-based rounds which involve approximately 3-5 hours per week while on clinics. Opportunities for providing dental care to a large variety of species are available if of interest of the faculty member. Development of a research program as well as clinical and research supervision of residents in dentistry and oral surgery is also required. Participation in continuing education programs for practicing veterinarians is also expected.

For a tenure track appointment, distribution of time is expected to be approximately 25% clinical responsibilities, 20% non-clinical teaching, 45-50% research and 5-10% service
